This is Van Gogh’s sunflower still life of 1887, painted in Paris, not one of the Arles sunflower vases of 1888. The flowers are cut and lying loose, a study of yellow rather than a bouquet in a pot.

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch painter who made most of his pictures in the last ten years of his life, in the Netherlands, Paris, Arles, and Auvers. Drawing from nature, thick paint, and intense color are the constants.
